Welcome to part 3 of my parents great adventure in their transition from spacious home to assisted living.
The second month in their new home was also BIRTHDAY MONTH for both of them. My dad turned 90 on the 21st and my mom turned 86 on the 13th — so we celebrated both birthdays with a BANG at the Retirement home. We invited all residents and were delighted that many attended. My parents tell me that people still stop them in the halls to say what a wonderrful party it was!
Unfortunately, the week after the party, my dad fell 3 times including two trips to ER. We are hopeful that he can get stronger (again), but for now, his mobility is compromised. Frustrating for all — so many steps forward and now back to the starting line.
My training as a Certified Senior Advisor has been especially meaningful as I help my own parents, while also deepening my awareness of how challenging aging can be for seniors, particularly for those who don’t have adult children to advocate for them.
