Washington Park: A Scenic Urban Oasis

Spanning 410 acres, Washington Park is a treasure trove of attractions and natural beauty in the heart of Portland. The park is home to iconic destinations such as the Oregon Zoo, the World Forestry Center, Hoyt Arboretum, the International Rose Test Garden, and the stunning Portland Japanese Garden, renowned for its serene atmosphere and breathtaking views of Mount Hood on clear days.

While entry to the park itself is free, certain attractions, like the Portland Japanese Garden, World Forestry Center Discovery Museum, and Oregon Zoo, require admission fees. However, there’s plenty to enjoy at no cost: hike the miles of lush, tree-lined trails, sniff away at the vibrant blooms of the Rose Garden, and soak in the panoramic vistas that make Washington Park a beloved destination.

To make your visit even easier, a free shuttle bus operates within the park, allowing you to explore its many highlights easily. For the cost of parking, you’ll have access to an unforgettable day of scenic views, cultural attractions, and outdoor adventure—all in one place.

Derya (visiting from Istanbul), Henry, and Lauren are pictured with a statue of a Royal Rosarian — and if you have never heard of such a thing, you are not alone! A google search revealed that they serve as “Official Greeters and Ambassadors of Goodwill for the City of Portland.  Formed in 1912, the Royal Rosarians promote the best interests of the City of Portland and the Portland Rose Festival.”
