Pearson Air Museum

I just love a museum.  Any museum!  Whatever the subject (from the Cranberry Museum in Long Beach WA to the Art Deco Museum in Miami beach), I learn something new and leave happier.

So whether you love a museum, or if you are an aviation enthusiasts (or both), you will no doubt enjoy the Pearson Air Museum, located within the National Historic Site of Fort Vancouver. The museum is free of charge (the best price) although a donation is always appreciated.

This museum is small, but rich in historical content and exhibits. Among the most notable displays is a detailed recounting of the first transpolar flight—a significant moment in aviation history. This event took place in 1937, when a Soviet aircraft unexpectedly landed at the site after completing a groundbreaking journey over the North Pole. The story of this surprise landing is well-documented within the museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of early aviation.

Additionally, the museum features an impressive history of women in aviation, highlighting the contributions of female pioneers who played crucial roles in the development of flight. These exhibits celebrate the achievements of trailblazing women who overcame barriers to make their mark in the aviation industry.

You won’t need all day – but allow an hour or two to enjoy this stop.  Well worth it!
