I am lucky enough to live quite nearby the Salmon Creek Trailhead and I start almost every day with a 3-mile run on the Trail. Today it was a special pleasure because of the SNOW. We don’t get snow often enough for it to be anything but exciting when it happens. Vancouver has many options for those that like to run, walk, or bike — and today I shared the trail with a fellow (and his dog) on cross-country skis! (to be clear, the dog did not have skis, but he looked quite happy to be part of the fun)
It’s a friendly bunch that frequents the trail; you generally pass other people twice since most of us will go only so far and then turn around. “Good morning!” a friendly dog walker might say when I pass by heading out; then “Have a great day” when I pass them again on the way back.
On Saturdays, you can participate in a 5k Park Run. For detailed information on this weekly event, visit this site: https://www.parkrun.us/salmoncreektrail/. It starts at 9am every Saturday from the parking lot at 800 NE 117th St. You register so you can get a time, but it’s a free event. This is a friendly group that meets up for coffee afterward. A nice way to meet new people!
And on Thanksgiving, you will find a crowd on the Trail, as the Turkey Trot is popular!
When Mount Hood is out, it creates a beautiful backdrop over the creek from certain vantage points. Bird watchers will find much to admire; today a bald eagle was watching over the entrance to the Trail. Turtle Pond often has an abundance of turtles (as you might expect), and once I even saw river otters frolicking in the pond.
